Web 2.0 in Your Business - Ingenuity Programme

These days, every business has a web site. But just as you think you’ve got up to speed with the web, along comes Web 2.0 – and, with it, the chance to change the way your business operates and promotes itself and that means looking at your web strategy from a whole new perspective.

To get the most from this practical workshop you do not need to be a technical wizard – you only need to be familiar with using the Internet and be excited about the possibilities that new developments in the web can bring. Web 2.0 in Your Business! will provide practical examples of how you can use Web 2.0 technologies within your business, operationally and strategically – and at little or no cost.

This interactive workshop, specifically developed for small and medium sized businesses, will:

• Illustrate why your business needs an internet strategy that goes beyond your own web site;
• Show you how to use “web services” creatively for your business;
• Demonstrate how you can reduce costs and improve effectiveness by adopting “software as a service” rather than spending money on “software in a box”;
• Give you plenty of low-cost or no-cost ideas that you can try for real to enhance your business.

Web 2.0 in Your Business! will be delivered by Christopher Barnatt, Associate Professor of Computing and Organisations at Nottingham University Business School, and recent presenter of the “Challenging Reality” TV series on Sky. Christopher has a strong practical interest in Web 2.0 as a cultural, business and technological phenomenon and, better still, is able to explain it in practical terms too; his web site – www.explainingcomputers.com – is a great example.

Working with Christopher on the workshop will be Mark Daintree, Teaching Fellow and Web & Database Programmer in Nottingham University Business School. Mark has significant industrial and educational experience and was a developer of the award-winning, low-cost desktop publishing package, PagePlus.

The workshop will start at 0930 and finish no later than 1600; lunch will be provided, as will refreshments throughout the day. It is priced at £50 per person and includes a copy of all the material delivered throughout the workshop.
